Hi!
So, we’ll see how this goes. Essentially, this site’s the product of my reading certain finance magazines each month*, and, especially over the past few months, coming across article after article that leave me feeling at least one of the following: surprised, confused, completely AMAZED, outraged, astounded, insane :P
More often than not, I’m reading magazines while on the elliptical machine at the gym (in an attempt to keep my mind off the fact that I’m on the elliptical machine at the gym). As such, I usually have no one to discuss various things I come across while reading. Usual manner of handling this: earfold the page with grand plans to come back to it later so I can express my feelings (shout my opinions) with (at) a friend that I just *know* will have the same excited, emotional response I did.
9.945 times out of 10 this never ends up happening.
Why?
I guess because:
1. I have essentially zero friends that read (or even have the least bit interest in) these magazines, and,
2. the friends I do have, and am able to wrangle into listening to my enthusiastic reports of some ‘interesting’ finding in an investment magazine (“you won’t believe these crazy contradictions in reporters’ advice from one month to the next” … “look how Reshma Kapadia now writes like every article in SmartMoney Magazine!”), just don’t seem to really see the stuff I’m talking about with the same interest / amusement / bewilderment I do.
So, I’m going to try putting my ideas down here. And mayyybe, I’ll be able to use this site as a sounding block for some of the things of interest I come across, and perhaps even strike up conversations with other people that are also reading these magazines each month and have an interest in talking about them.
We shall see! Anyway, if you are reading this, yay, how exciting! I’d love to hear what you think about some of the things I have to say, so please, if so inspired, leave a comment, question, etc.
OK, that’s all for now- more to come soon!
Kev
*primarily SmartMoney & Money, both of which I quite enjoy and pretty much always read cover-to-cover, and to a lesser extent Kiplinger’s (i.e., I subscribe, but don’t read too religiously) and other random things I come across
